Background
The St. James Camino Network (S.J.C.N.) was founded in 1997 to provide a holistic approach to the treatment of drug addicts. The aim of the project is to provide a complete recovery programme for addicts through a series of stages that facilitates the individual to attain an independent drug-free life within their community. It is based on a 12 step programme and is designed to enhance the emotional, physical, psychological and spiritual well-being of the service users. The programme is co-ordinated by the Director Fr. Denis Laverty.
Operations
The programme is run by both professionally qualified staff as well as programme facilitators, who have personal experience of addiction .They act as guides to the clients in living the 12 steps programme. They are recognised by the management to be a number of years in good recovery and follow a 12 step programme. This model has been applied successfully in other countries such as the US, Holland and Spain. Project facilitators bring a level of motivation, support and understanding from their own experience, which serves as a positive model to those in the process of recovery from active addiction.
